In the official “Order & Chaos Online” forums, Gameloft has just spilled some details on the first update for their iPhone and iPad MMO. That’s some great news, especially since Gameloft doesn’t have the reputation to keep on supporting their games once they’re released. This fact has left quite a few people wondering what will happen to “Order & Chaos Online” – since subscription based MMOs obviously need to get some fresh content on a regular basis, otherwise there’s little to keep players coming back for more.

While there’s no word on when the update will be out, this is the overview of its content:

• New quests will be added in the last two high-level regions
• A server migration system will be implemented, allowing you to change your server
• The cost needed to teleport from one city to another will be adjusted
• The amount of money lost upon dying will be adjusted
• All cemeteries will become non-Player-versus-Player areas (non-PvP), meaning no player will be able to attack another one in a cemetery
• A teleport will be added in Greenmont
• Additional content and several bug fixes will also be implemented…

If Gameloft’s Order & Chaos has made you interested in MMORPGs for your iPhone and iPad, but the game itself wasn’t quite what you were looking for, now is the time to check out Pocket Legends! Not only did the developers celebrate Pocket Legends’ anniversary a while back by giving away premium content for free – SpaceTime Studios have just announced that these 6 areas will remain free forever:

• Balefort Castle
• Fathom Crypts
• The Lost Expedition
• The Ancient Swamps
• Balefort Sewers
• The Alien Oasis Trilogy

This basically means you can now spend countless hours grinding through Pocket Legends without having to buy any premium content. However, once you do feel like you want more content (or if you’ve already played the heck out of it), you will have the option to check out a brand new premium area called “Sandstone Caves”. It’s designed for characters from level 20 to 25 and comes with a new town, new quests, new monsters and new items. The new area will cost you 10 in-game Platinums, which equals $1,65. Pocket Legends itself is free to download, so don’t hesitate and give it a try!

That was quick! After releasing Order & Chaos Online exclusively in Canada just a day ago, Gameloft has made it available worldwide. The release in Canada was most likely a test to see if everything works out well with the servers before making the game available internationally – and Gameloft must have realized pretty quickly that their servers are able to handle all the traffic.

Order & Chaos Online is Gameloft’s take on the MMORPG genre. It looks and feels a lot like World of Warcraft and as I said before, regarding the popularity of WoW and just how well it works, that’s not a bad thing. The scope of Order & Chaos Online is crazy for an iOS game. This is a game that you can spend a ridiculous amount of time with. It’s really astonishing to see a full scale MMORPG executed so well on an iDevice.

What I have seen so far looks really promising. I will post more impressions of the game after I have spent some more time with it. Order & Chaos Online comes as a universal app and will set you back $6.99 that include a three months subscription. After that you have 3 options to renew your subscription:

• $0.99 for 1 month
• $1.99 for 3 months
• $2.99 for 6 months

Gameloft’s MMORPG for iPhone and iPad is out in Canada. If you ever played a MMORPG (in this case particularly World of Warcraft) you should feel at home pretty fast. You can chose to play for the Order (Humans and Elves) or Chaos (Orcs and Undead) to spend countless hours grinding up your characters level while you solve all sorts of quests for various NPCs. But only over WiFi – at the moment Order & Chaos does not work with a 3G connection.

Order & Chaos gives you a vast amount of options to customize your character. Not only can you tweak your characters appearance to your likes, but you will also be in charge of your characters development. More than 1000 different skills and 2000 pieces of Equipment are waiting for you to be discovered.

Order & Chaos comes with a monthly subscription model. It will offer you a free 3 month trial when you log-in for the first time. After that you can chose between 3 options:

• $0.99 for 1 month
• $1.99 for 3 months
• $2.99 for 6 months

At the moment, Order & Chaos is only available in the Canadian App Store and it’s not clear when Order & Chaos will be released worldwide.

Gameloft has uploaded yet another trailer, this time it’s gameplay footage of its upcoming MMORPG Order & Chaos Online. There’s really not much that we know about this game right now other than it seems highly inspired by Blizzard’s MMORPG heavyweight World of Warcraft. What we have seen so far looks pretty promising and also attracted quite a bit of attention from iOS gamers. This is not surprising, the massive success of games like World of Warcraft show there’s a lot of interest for the genre.

Knowing that it’s going to be a MMO game, one of the questions that come up is how Gameloft wants us to pay for it. Will it be a one time purchase? Will it be free with monthly fees, just like common PC MMORPGs? Maybe freemium? At the moment, only Gameloft also knows the answer. However, Gameloft has a habit of only showing off games that are pretty close to their release, so I bet we will find out pretty soon.

Gameloft is a developer people either love for bringing some of their favorite console experiences to the iPhone or blame for trying to produce games that are inspired by the biggest names of gaming, but often don’t feel original. There is no doubt that Gameloft has taken a close look at World of Warcraft – but since it is by far the most successful MMORPG, who would blame them? It will be interesting to see if Gameloft succeeds to give Order & Chaos Online an original touch. But even if they only succeed in adapting the gameplay mechanics to the iPhone and iPad, Order & Chaos Online will have incredible potential to become a huge game.

Another interesting aspect is how we will pay for Order & Chaos Online. Will it come with a monthly subscription fee? Will it be some sort of freemium model? If we look at the past, Gameloft has released their games relatively close to their first announcement, so I expect we will get more information within the next few weeks, as well as a release date.
