This War Of Mine is a game you won’t forget. The developer, 11bitstudios, actually doesn’t really like to call This War Of Mine a game, because games usually are meant to be fun – and that’s not quite the case here. You get to experience war from a different angle than what you’re used to: You aren’t a soldier, you are a mere civilian, trying to survive in a city that is besieged and about to collapse. Clean water, food, medical supplies – things that we take for granted are suddenly so scarce that you will have to make some very tough decisions while trying to obtain these resources. Not to mention that you have to constantly watch your back. You never know whether any person that you meet along the way is going to be friendly or not – these people are struggling to survive as well, after all.

If all of this sounds very bleak to you, than you have a good a idea of what to expect from This War Of Mine. After all, it was the developer’s intention to make you really reflect upon the terrible situations people will have to face during times of war. The game was released last year for pc and is currently being ported to iOS. A release date is not yet announced, so keep an eye on upcoming news!

Heads Up! Hot Dogs – This Game Reveals What Hot Dogs Were Really Made For!http://taparena.com/2012/11/01/heads-up-hot-dogs-this-game-reveals-what-hot-dogs-were-really-made-for/ http://taparena.com/2012/11/01/heads-up-hot-dogs-this-game-reveals-what-hot-dogs-were-really-made-for/#comments Thu, 01 Nov 2012 13:06:21 +0000 Tom http://taparena.com/?p=1582 Continue reading

Do you enjoy high score chasing games? Do you like hot dogs? Do you like weird stuff? Yes? Then Heads Up! Hot Dogs sounds like just the right game for you! All you need to do is put hot dogs that fall from the sky on people’s heads. Wait, what?! Yeah, placing hot dogs on people’s heads, you read that right. Sometimes you really have to wonder what magical chemicals the developers of games such as Heads Up! Hot Dogs accidentally stumbled upon before they came up with the gameplay idea. Maybe they played too many Mario games and took the idea of magic mushrooms too literal?

Anywho, as long as it means we can get our hands on games that are as weirdly awesome as Heads Up! Hot Dogs, I’m totally fine with whatever dietary supplements the devs spice up their lives with! In case you’re still not sure what the heck I’m talking about, just go ahead and watch the trailer and I’m sure you’ll instantly understand. Heads Up! Hot Dogs is a universal app that will set you back $0.99 and like I said, if you dig the idea of placing hot dogs on peoples heads while chasing the high score, this game is totally worth it! It’s “the most realistic hot-dog-head-balancing game EVER” after all.

Now On Sale – Dead Space HD And Real Racing 2http://taparena.com/2012/10/16/now-on-sale-dead-space-hd-and-real-racing-2/ http://taparena.com/2012/10/16/now-on-sale-dead-space-hd-and-real-racing-2/#comments Tue, 16 Oct 2012 20:03:23 +0000 Tom http://taparena.com/?p=1562 Continue reading dead space real racing 2 sale Now On Sale Dead Space HD And Real Racing 2

Listen up guys, with Real Racing 2 and Dead Space HD two of the most awesome games on the App Store are currently on sale! Dead Space HD dropped from $9.99 to $1.99 and Real Racing 2 dropped from $4.99 to $0.99. Both games are an incredible bargain at their current price tags. Heck, I even think they offer great value when they are not up for sale! I totally loved Dead Space in my review so go check it out if you are still in doubt! Also, have look at the trailers:

Dead Space is only on sale for the iPad, while the iPhone version remains at $6.99. With Real Racing 2, it’s the other way around: The price for the iPhone version is lowered to $0.99, whereas the iPad version will still set you back $6.99. Both games offer some impressive graphics and helped push what we thought was technically possible on the iOS platform to new heights. Therefore, I can only repeat myself: If you own either an iPhone or iPad and you’re into games (which you probably are, why on earth would you end up on TapArena otherwise?!) you should totally play those games!

Star Command For iOS – Brand New Trailer With 13 Minutes Of Gameplay!http://taparena.com/2012/10/15/star-command-for-ios-brand-new-trailer-with-13-minutes-of-gameplay/ http://taparena.com/2012/10/15/star-command-for-ios-brand-new-trailer-with-13-minutes-of-gameplay/#comments Mon, 15 Oct 2012 18:04:59 +0000 Tom http://taparena.com/?p=1554 Continue reading

Finally! We’ve been talking about Star Command last week in our Highly Anticipated iPhone and iPad Games List and already teased you by saying that the developers have announced to show us a brand new gameplay trailer of Star Command this monday. And well, here it is! And it’s glorious!

The trailer is giving you a look at what this game really is about. And in short, that’s building a ship, hiring a crew, navigating through the universe, managing your crew, upgrading your ship, fighting aliens, negotiating with aliens, discovering stuff and much more. Well, that list wasn’t that short after all, was it? And I really do hope that it’ll also feel this way once we get a chance to play Star Command, since my biggest and almost only fear for this game is that it might become repetitive if it’s not filled with enough things to do. But let’s give the developers the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best – because then this game will kick some serious ass!

What I’m really digging is how Star Command looks and sounds. It’s like the Star Trek game that I would have played the shit out of if it were released on the Super Nintendo back then. If, like I said, there is enough content to make it worth our while. I sure hope so!

EA’s Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 was just released a few weeks ago, yet EA is already running a sale on the iPhone version. The game drops to $4.99 during this weekends “The 2011 Masters Tournament”. This is excellent news for anyone who was intrigued to buy the game but was held back by the price – and the fact that EA is offering their newest games rather sooner than later on some sort of sale.

If you are into golf games, you will most likely enjoy your time with Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12. If you are not sure whether or not this game is the right one for you, you can always give the free lite version a try.

Game Dev Story Review – A Gamers Dream Come Truehttp://taparena.com/2011/03/10/game-dev-story-review/ http://taparena.com/2011/03/10/game-dev-story-review/#comments Thu, 10 Mar 2011 20:57:57 +0000 Tom http://taparena.com/?p=219 Continue reading game dev story icon Game Dev Story Review A Gamers Dream Come True Game Dev Story will make the dream of countless gamers become reality on their iPhone: Being the head of their very own game development studio. You will be in charge of everything – from hiring people, to setting the scenario and taking care of the advertisement, everything will happen the way you want it to. Awesome.

You start the game by choosing a name for your new start-up studio. That means you have very limited funds and literally no fans who support you yet. Of course we need to change this fact, so you will start hiring writers, graphic designers, sound engineers and programers to get down to business. And now the fun begins: You have to decide what game you want to develop. Do you want to develop an action-adventure in a pirate setting? Or what about a shooter in a sci-fi scenario? But that’s not all, you will also be able to exactly decide on what things you want to focus with the game. A limited amount of points are waiting to be spent on certain attributes like ‘Polish’, ‘Approachability’ or ‘Innovation’ just to name a few. The combination of all of these factors will decide how the critics are going to rate your game. And you will usually sell a lot more copies of well rated games of course.

One more thing that influences your sales is the platform you chose to release the game on. As you progress in Game Dev Story, new consoles will be announced and old consoles will be taken off the market on a regular basis. But you can’t just go ahead and develop for a new console – you have to get a license first. The licenses are pretty expensive, so you want to choose carefully which platform is worth to have it in your portfolio. And since the next console generation is never too far away, you will also have to get new licenses to stay on top of the market. And don’t be surprised if the names of the consoles will sound kind of familiar. If you have followed the development of the gaming industry and the rise and fall of the consoles we have seen in the past decades, you will love the attention to detail that has gone into Game Dev Story.

So as the years go by, you will keep on leveling up your staff, unlock new game scenarios and even move offices. Thanks to demo distributions and other advertisement you arranged, you have built a solid fan base. And yet every time you release a new game it still feels exciting to see how it will be received by the critics and how good the game will sell. And what makes the game so great is the ease of controlling everything. Of course this is no Civilization V that we are talking about, but the guys at Kairosoft managed to pack quite a bit of complexity into a very intuitive and simple menu system. Well done.

The presentation of the game is simple yet charming. It comes in an 8-bit retro look complete with fitting sound effects. Don’t expect anything spectacular compared to what is possible on a current iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. But rest assured I would never consider the graphics to be any drawback. Considering the era you start in Game Dev Story it fits just perfect.

If you have ever dreamed of having your own development studio one day, don’t hesitate to buy Game Dev Story. It is currently on 50% sale for $1,99 on the App Store so be sure to grab it soon! However, even for $3,99 I can only recommend it. The time that most people I know have spent with it makes this price tag more than reasonable. If you want to give it a try first, there is also a lite version available.
