Super Crate Box Coming To iPhone And iPad This September!

super crate box Super Crate Box Coming To iPhone And iPad This September!

Oh how I like to be the messenger of good news! The awesome arcade shooter Super Crate Box will soon be available on the App Store for your iPhone and iPad. In case you are not familiar with this game, it’s an indie title developed by Vlambeer and is available for free on both Windows and Mac systems. It’s a super fun game that has won several awards and is well received amongst gamers!

But this is a game where precise controls matter, so I was a bit skeptical at first. Then I learned that Vlambeer has teamed up with Halfbot to bring Super Crate Box to the App Store and all worries where gone. Halfbot has developed The Blocks Cometh which is one of the platformers with the tightest controls on the App Store. No need to say I’m having high hopes for this old school arcade title and I can’t wait till it’s released this September. Check out the trailer!

Save Yammi Quick Look: Draw The Rope

I’ve just stumbled upon Save Yammi, a physics based puzzler that could have also been called Draw The Rope. There’s just no denying that Save Yammi is heavily inspired by ZeptoLab’s App Store hit Cut The Rope. Needless to say I was intrigued to see whether Intermost Inc, the developers, managed to find a way that makes this game stand out next to Cut The Rope. The most obvious difference that sets Save Yammi apart is the changed gameplay mechanic regarding the rope: You don’t cut any ropes, you have to draw them into the levels. This is an interesting spin on the formula and works quite well. There’s also some gravity sections in the game that require you to carefully tilt your iPhone to navigate the cookie into Yammi’s mouth.

I’ve cleared quite a few levels by now and have to say that the adapted gameplay mechanics work pretty well and do offer some welcome surprises every now and then. Save Yammi also looks and sounds great – although you might argue that it lacks a bit of personality due to the fact that just about everything feels like it’s a modified piece of what’s there in Cut The Rope. If that’s not too big of a deal for you, and you’ve enjoyed the Cut The Rope games, then you should definitely give Save Yammi a shot. And thanks to the free Lite Version [iPhone|iPad], you won’t even have to spend anything to find out if this is your cup of tea.

Bejeweled 2 + Blitz For iPhone Is Now Free For Some Time

bejeweled 2 icon Bejeweled 2 + Blitz For iPhone Is Now Free For Some TimePopCap’s match-3 puzzle game Bejeweled 2 + Blitz [Free] for iPhone is currently available for free on the App Store! The Bejeweled franchise is ridiculously popular in the casual gaming market and I’m almost certain that pretty much everyone has played a game of this franchise somehow somewhere. Bejeweled 2 + Blitz used to be a premium title on the App Store when it was released a few years ago (it was released pretty soon after the App Store went live) and still offers a great deal of fun. And now that it’s free, you should totally pick it up!

Behold: Sonic CD Is Coming To iPhone And iPad!

I’m Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog! Well ok, I’m not. But damn am I excited to hear that one of the best Sonic games ever made, Sonic CD, is coming to our iPhones and iPads. And fear not, it’s not going to be the same as previous SEGA releases that all suffered from a somewhat not-so-great emulator. This time around, SEGA has put together a pretty sweet package for you.

First of all, Sonic CD will feature the original (and awesome) Japanese soundtrack. It will also have some enhanced widescreen graphics and “special iOS enhancements”. It was not specified in the press release what these enhancements are, but I hope that we’ll get some Game Center support along with some nice achievements to unlock. And like I said, Sonic CD will not run on SEGA’s usual emulator. Nope, it will run on the so called Retro Engine that was developed by Christian “Taxman” Whitehead, who is a very well known figure in the Sonic community for his efforts to bring back Sonic on modern systems. And boy am I glad to see this guy’s brilliant mind to be involved in the development of the Sonic CD re-release. And the release will not be limited to iOS, it will actually ship on almost any platform you can think of: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Android and Windows Phone. Sonic CD will have its public debut at PAX tomorrow, so hopefully we’ll get some more details on those “special iOS enhancements”. In the meantime, why not check out Sonic 4 Episode I?
