March of Heroes: Gameloft’s First Unreal Engine Game Gets A Trailer

Alright, here it is. March of Heroes, the first Gameloft game powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine that a whole lot of iPhone and iPad gamers have been waiting for.

Ever since Gameloft announced a few months ago that they have signed a licensing agreement with Epic, we were pretty excited to see how Gameloft is going to utilize the powerhouse that is the Unreal Engine. A few days ago, Gameloft dropped the bomb on twitter that their first game to use the Unreal Engine would be called March of Heroes. That’s not a whole lot of information, but it was a start. Now today, Gameloft has uploaded a debut trailer for said title.

The trailer shows some of the scenery, cutscenes and actual gameplay footage. March of Heroes turns out to be a military first person shooter set in fairly modern times. And while the graphics do look good, I have to say that I’m a bit underwhelmed by the trailer. But to be fair, my expectations were sky-high. I expected nothing less than a new mobile FPS graphics standard. In the light of the newly released material that showcases Madfinger’s upcoming third person shooter Shadowgun, March of Heroes can’t impress as much as I’d like it to. However, graphics isn’t the most important feature in a game, so if Gameloft nails the gameplay, I’m more than happy to dig deep into their first Unreal Engine FPS.

Game Center: 50 Million Users In Just 9 Months, Minor Updates With iOS 5

The 2011 WWDC is up and running at the moment and Scott Forstall has just been talking about Game Center for iOS 5 that ships this fall. He started off by celebrating some key numbers: Game Center is only available since 9 months and already has 50 million users. The number itself is already impressive, but stands out even more if you compare it to Microsoft’s Xbox Live, that, after about eight years, has around 30 million users.

Forstall kept on talking about further improvements to Game Center. Apple is pushing the social aspect of this service. You’ll be able to dig deep into highscore lists of your friends’ friends, get friend recommendations and also game recommendations. You’ll also be able to purchase new games right within Game Center.

Unfortunately nothing was said about save game management. I’m still hoping that this is a feature that’s tied to the new iCloud service and we’ll be hearing about it in a few minutes.

9mm: New Gameplay Trailer For Gameloft’s Third Person Shooter

Gameloft has uploaded a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming third person shooter 9mm. You get to see some of the slow motion action which reminded me a whole lot of Max Payne, the game that basically invented the slow motion shooter genre with its bullet time.

What’s shown in the trailer looks fairly promising – from the action oriented gameplay to the great looking graphics, Gameloft seems to be pushing their standard once more. The trailer is shy of revealing the release date, but if Gameloft says “available soon”, they’re usually speaking of a few weeks, so you better warm up your shooter skills already!

Hard Lines Trailer: Snake On Steroids

I just caught wind of the promising looking Hard Lines. It’s basically good old Snake on steroids. You remember Snake, do you? Back in the day, when smartphones were not so smart and most of us were still rocking simple mobile phones, everyone was busy breaking the highscore on Snake. Wait, you don’t miss these times? I can’t blame you, neither do I.

But it did make me feel all nostalgic seeing a Snake inspired game, and in the case of Hard Lines, it even looks refreshing and like a great deal of fun. The game is already submitted and currently waiting for approval from Apple. If everything goes well, Hard Lines should hit the App Store very soon.
