Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP – A stunningly unique and promising iOS title coming this March

Sword & Sworcery is one of these games that are very hard to describe in words since it relies so heavily on its audiovisual experience. And what an experience it is! The game was even awarded with an ‘IGF Mobile 2010 Achievement in Art’.

Capybara Games, the developer behind this unique game, just recently released a new trailer. They call it the “Audience Calibration Procedure”. And while it does not reveal a whole lot of the gameplay, it creates yet again a very unique and mesmerizing atmosphere. Have a look:

I bet I am not the only one who was reminded of Half-Life’s G-Man. And this was most likely intended, since Superbrothers themselves described their last years gameplay video to be “like the tram ride in Half-Life”. But don’t get this wrong, while being inspired by the Half-Life universe, they have created something very unique. And being inspired by one of the best and most influential games ever created is not the worst thing I guess. Check out last year’s “Walk in the Woods’ trailer:

From what I’ve seen so far I’m really blown away. The superb pixel art in combination with the hypnotizing music is pushing the exact right buttons on me. I’m really looking forward to get my hands onto Sword & Sworcery. And it seems as if we all don’t have to wait that much anymore: The trailer announces the game to be available on the App Store “Around the Vernal Equinox” – which happens to be the 20th of March this year. Let’s all hope the game can live up to its expectations.
