Kavcom has updated their official blog with 4 iPad screenshots of their upcoming remake of the RTS classic Z. The screenshots make it clear that this will be a truthful remake of the Bitmap Borthers’ classic. However, there is no word on any other details of the game, which means the release date remains a rather vague “2011″. We also know that Z will be available for both iPhone and iPad. And to make you feel all nostalgic just like we do right now, have a look at the rest of the screenshots:

Death Rally Price Drop And First Update

Death Rally, Remedy’s excellent fun racer for which we only had good words in our review, is already seeing a price drop from $3.99 to $2.99. On top of that the first update is also available for download. The update includes:

• A new car
• A new challenge mode
• 2 new weapons

Death Rally was already a great game before the update and well worth the money – so with the added content and the price drop, downloading this game for your iPhone or iPad (the game comes as universal app) should be a no-brainer if you like the genre. However, one feature that I’m sure would be a blast in Death Rally is multiplayer. Just think of Mario Kart: Blowing up friends in a racing game just before the finish line is pretty much priceless. And looking at the support Remedy is putting into Death Rally, hoping for a multiplayer mode in the near future doesn’t seem unrealistic.

Doodle Army 2 Review – A Fun Online Side Scrolling Shooter

Doodle Army 2 just showed up on the App Store a bit earlier this week. It offers some fun 2D side scrolling online-action for iPhone and iPad and comes with a bunch of nice improvements compared to its predecessor. Doodle Army 2 is available for free with a one-time $0.99 in app purchase that unlocks the full set of weapons, enables avatar customization and removes the iAds.

Gameplay is as straightforward as it can be. You control your character with a virtual analog stick on the left and you aim and shoot with another analog stick on the right. Additionally, there are two buttons in the center of the screen, one to throw a grenade and one for close combat. Thanks to jet-pack boots, movement is almost unlimited in any direction. The precise controls make it fun to float through the levels while fragging as many opponents as possible.

Unfortunately, the presentation of Doodle Army 2 is far from being impressive. While other games that don’t have cutting edge graphic engines know to impress with a detailed and charming art design, Doodle Army 2 doesn’t stand out in this category and looks a bit generic. A bit more attention to detail to spice up the looks of the maps could have worked wonders.

But after all, Doodle Army 2 definitely delivers on the gameplay front and thanks to its freemium model you should really download it and check out the gameplay yourself. It comes as a universal app for your iPhone and iPad.

Death Rally Review For iPhone and iPad – Because Racing Is Much More Fun With Guns

death rally header Death Rally Review For iPhone and iPad Because Racing Is Much More Fun With Guns

Death Rally is a top-down action-racer developed by Remedy, the guys behind Alan Wake and Max Payne. It’s actually a remake, the original Death Rally was released in 1996. So don’t expect any kind of realistic driving simulation, everything in this game is tailored to deliver instant action. And it’s a blast from start to finish.

At the start of your career there is only one car available and it’s equipped with a standard machine gun. But this will change pretty soon. There are 4 more cars and additional weapons that are unlocked by collecting all of their parts that are spread over the race tracks. As you start racing you will also earn money to upgrade your car’s attributes (speed, handling, armor) and your weapons. And since you’re not the only one taking advantage of these weapons, you will also need to spend some money on repairing your car after each race. Depending on the ‘Armor’ attribute, you can only take so many hits before your car explodes, forcing you to quit the race. This applies to your rivals as well – which gives you the choice to either drive as precise as possible to lead the race or to fall back and blow up the competition. I guess I don’t have to tell you what’s more fun.

While it basically comes down to racing in one event after another, there are always 6 events available to chose from. This clever design choice almost always ensures you can pick a mode or track that you like to race on. There are 5 Tracks available, each with its distinguish look. This might not sound like a lot, but Death Rally reuses each of them in reversed and rotated versions which adds quite a bit of variety. And on top of that, Remedy promised to add more content with regular updates. The first of these updates is right around the corner and will bring a new car, 2 new weapons, a new challenge mode and other minor improvements and bug fixes.

The presentation of Death Rally is stunning, with sharp visuals that will light up your screen with all sorts of gunfire and explosions. If you’re the proud owner of an iPad 2, the visuals are ramped up even further to fully take advantage of Apple’s new hardware. What also stands out is the level of polish that went into this game. Even the menus look slick and are clever designed. You control your car with a virtual analog stick on the left and a fire button on the right. Controlling the car with the analog stick might need some time getting used to, but after only 2 or 3 races I was getting along very well with it.

If you like the genre, you should definitely pick Death Rally up. $3.99 is a fair price for the package Remedy offers here. And if you have both an iPhone and iPad you will be happy to hear that it comes as a universal app.
