Rayman Jungle Run Review For iPhone – Yep, It’s Awesome!

rayman jungle run header Rayman Jungle Run Review For iPhone Yep, Its Awesome!

One of the best things Ubisoft has done in recent years (besides giving birth to Assassin’s Creed) was to reboot the Rayman series. The developers must have realised that Rayman’s true strength had always been the excellent platforming action. And so they released a graphically super impressive 2D platforming game with great controls, great gameplay and a very unique soundtrack called Rayman Origins.

Luckily, Rayman Jungle Run for iPhone and iPad has a lot in common with its bigger console brother. It looks just as beautiful and is a very polished, very fun game. The biggest difference is the gameplay; while you have full directional control in Rayman Origins, Rayman Jungle Run is an on-rail game where you only need to help Rayman avoid various obstacles. You’ll be doing this by simply tapping the left side of the screen to jump and fly, and the right side of the screen to punch.

In the first few levels, all you need to do and worry about is jumping. The game will then introduce you to the concept of floating and finally into punching stuff. This is done very intuitively and creates a very nice learning curve. At first I was a bit worried that Rayman Jungle Run might be too easy because the first few levels were no real challenge at all. I was proven wrong pretty soon when I tried to complete one of the challenge levels that you first need to unlock before you can play them. I probably tried that level about 50 times and have yet to complete it.

The game is split into four chapters with ten levels each. The levels are full of coins that, if you wish to collect all 100 per level, you often have to find secret passages for. Collecting all 100 coins in a level will gain you a special zombie tooth. In each of the four chapters there is one special challenge level that can be unlocked by collecting five of those teeth. All of the levels have a very distinctive art style and look and feel very different. But while they all look different, they also all look equally gorgeous! Rayman Jungle Run really is a beautiful game!

So it looks as good as Rayman Origins, but unfortunately it doesn’t sound quite as good. The music in Rayman Jungle Run is very similar, but it does sound very repetitive and might get on your nerves pretty quickly. It doesn’t help that there isn’t a huge variety of songs either. But compared to how much fun I had with this game overall, I can forgive the weakness in the music department.

So my verdict is quite clear: If you like beautiful and challenging platforming games on your iPhone and iPad, there’s really no way around buying Rayman Jungle Run. For what it offers I also consider it a steal!

Grab It While It’s Free: iBlast Moki 2

iblast moki 2 header2 Grab It While Its Free: iBlast Moki 2

Godzi Lab makes you an offer you can’t refuse: iBlast Moki 2 HD is free for a limited time! Make sure to look for the iPad version which is a universal App, because that’s the one that’s for free, not the iPhone-only version. It’s a bit weird, but who cares! iBlast Moki 2 is a fantastic physics based puzzle game. In fact, it’s one of my favourites of the genre! You have to place bombs on strategic positions and time their explosions to blast the Mokis into freedom. Further down the campaign, you’ll also have to build various vehicles and bridges in order to succeed. It’ll really make you use that squishy matter between your ears! The graphics are sharp and cute, the sound design is unique and the controls are spot on.

It’s not clear how long iBlast Moki 2 will be offered for free, all it says is “for a very limited time”. So you better fire up the App Store immediately and get this game right now to make your weekend even better!

Highly Anticipated: iPhone And iPad Games You Have To Keep Your Eye On!

Infinity Blade Dungeons, Epic Games’ prequel to their incredibly successful Infinity Blade saga, was announced earlier this year. What makes it stand out form the previous games is the fact that it’s an isometric hack and slash game. And while this year saw the release of hack and slash heavy hitters like Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2, I’m still super excited for Infinity Blade Dungeons! There’s just something about the presentation and the atmosphere that make Epic’s Infinity Blade games a truly unique experience. The official release date still says “Coming Soon”, and I’m expecting this game to definitely hit before Christmas.

Star Command. Star friggin’ Command. I can’t wait for this game to be finally released on the App Store! The premise of Star Command is as simple as it is beautiful: You’re given the freedom to build your own spaceship, hire your own crew and then go explore the universe with them. Basically, it’ll make you feel like James Tiberius Kirk himself. And that’s just brilliant. Star Command was successfully funded on Kickstarter – but that was already one year ago. At the time, the developers were shooting for a Holiday 2011 release. The good news is that the devs have announced to publish a 10 minute gameplay video this monday. I’m excited to see what Star Command’s current state of development is!

Badlur's Gate Enhanced iPad Edition

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition is a port of the classic PC RGP that pretty much redefined the genre back then. Baldur’s Gate is a real RPG heavy weight and I’m happy to see games of such complexity being brought to the iPad. It has been in development for quite some time now and is coming out on November 30th. If you are even remotely interested in a deep and rich RPG experience, get ready to be blown away.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour – Because In Video Games, War Never Ends

Do you still remember how groundbreaking the first Modern Combat game was when it was first released on the App Store? Well, Gameloft is at it again and giving you a look at the 4th instalment of the Modern Combat series for iPhone and iPad. And while the times have changed and we’ve seen such beautiful games like Infinity Blade, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour still looks pretty awesome for an iOS game. It might not be as groundbreaking as the first entry in the series, but you can clearly see that Gameloft is trying to compensate for that with a more immersive experience. Unfortunately, the writing and presentation of the story is usually one of the weaker elements in almost all Gameloft games, so it’s gonna be interesting to see wether they succeed this time around.

But whatever the outcome may be, I’m still pretty sure that it’s gonna be a fun shooter to kill some time with on your iPhone and iPad.
