LucasArts Licensed Unreal Engine 3

lucasarts ue3 LucasArts Licensed Unreal Engine 3

LucasArts has signed a licensing agreement with Epic Games that enables them to develop multiple projects with Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 across all supported platforms. What could be interesting is that Mark Rein, vice president of Epic, explicitly mentions “mobile” as one of the platforms. And while this might raise your hopes for a UE3 Star Wars game for iOS (or what about a Grim Fandango remake? Oh boy!), there’s also the possibility that Mark Rein just wanted to emphasize on how versatile their UE3 is.

LucasArts so far doesn’t seem to bet heavy on the App Store, but the Monkey Island remakes that are available are well done and a great deal of fun. So if we’re lucky, maybe LucasArts also signed this deal to expand their catalog on the App Store – And I’m always up for a new Star Wars game, so fingers crossed!

Chaos Rings Omega For iPhone – Reveal Trailer Of Square Enix’ New RPG

Square Enix has uploaded the first trailer for Chaos Rings Omega, a prequel to one of the best RPGs the App Store has to offer. The trailer features a lot of dialogues that presumably prepare us for the story – “presumably” because the trailer is only available in Japanese and my Japanese is, well, let’s say rusty.

However, Andriasang.com managed to translate the latest bits of information from the Japanese gaming site Famitsu. According to them, the story in Omega takes place 10.000 years before Chaos Rings and will be centered on a character called Viegue, his wife and his daughter Vahti.

Viegue looks a lot like a character from the original Chaos Rings called “Olgar”, so it will be interesting to see how Square ties the story of the games together.

It’s great to see more of Chaos Rings coming from Square and from what I can tell from the trailer it looks like they have focused on an epic story this time around. Chaos Rings Omega will be released in Japan next month, a global release date has yet to be announced by Square Enix. As soon as we find any information about the international release, we’ll let you know about it.

Order & Chaos Online Now Available Worldwide, New Gameplay Trailer

order chaos online header Order & Chaos Online Now Available Worldwide, New Gameplay Trailer

That was quick! After releasing Order & Chaos Online exclusively in Canada just a day ago, Gameloft has made it available worldwide. The release in Canada was most likely a test to see if everything works out well with the servers before making the game available internationally – and Gameloft must have realized pretty quickly that their servers are able to handle all the traffic.

Order & Chaos Online is Gameloft’s take on the MMORPG genre. It looks and feels a lot like World of Warcraft and as I said before, regarding the popularity of WoW and just how well it works, that’s not a bad thing. The scope of Order & Chaos Online is crazy for an iOS game. This is a game that you can spend a ridiculous amount of time with. It’s really astonishing to see a full scale MMORPG executed so well on an iDevice.

What I have seen so far looks really promising. I will post more impressions of the game after I have spent some more time with it. Order & Chaos Online comes as a universal app and will set you back $6.99 that include a three months subscription. After that you have 3 options to renew your subscription:

• $0.99 for 1 month
• $1.99 for 3 months
• $2.99 for 6 months

Supermono’s New Game Drive Forever Coming This Summer

drive forever 01 Supermonos New Game Drive Forever Coming This Summer drive forever 02 Supermonos New Game Drive Forever Coming This Summer

Supermono, the folks behind MiniSquadron and EpicWin, have shared some details of their upcoming top-down racing game Drive Forever. The concept behind Drive Forever sounds very interesting: You will not only be able to race in the game, but to create new race tracks yourself and share them with other players. Drive Forever will use these user created tracks and put them seamlessly together while you are playing the game – so you can… Drive Forever! Players will be able to rate these tracks, to make sure you will always drive on the best ones. But worry not, the game will also be playable offline – although obviously only with tracks you already downloaded.

Supermono describes the game as a “sort of a massively multiplayer OutRun-meets-SimCity, but set in the FUTURE.”

You will also be rewarded for both sides of the game. Drive Forever comes with loads of unlockables, bonuses and achievements. Your driving skills will be rewarded with new cars, paintworks and accessories. And if you built great tracks, you will get new buildings, themes and scenery. This will be determined by the number of people that drive your tracks and how well it’s rated.

Drive Forever is utilizing Supermono’s own graphics engine which they specifically built for iOS. And the games art design looks great and makes it really stand out compared to other top-down racers. It reminds me of Tron, although with a very modern touch to it.

So when is it coming out? According to Supermono they are “deep into production right now, we’re aiming to finish in the next 2-3 months”. So if everything goes well, Drive Forever should hit the App Store sometime this summer.

Chaos Rings – Square Enix Is Working On 2 New Entries Of The Franchise

chaos rings small Chaos Rings Square Enix Is Working On 2 New Entries Of The Franchise Andriasang.com reports that according to the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Square Enix is working on 2 new Chaos Rings titles for iPhone and iPad. The first title, called Chaos Rings Omega, is most likely going to be a prequel to the original Chaos Rings and will be released this May – in Japan. Square Enix has yet to announce a worldwide release date.

On top of that, Square Enix has bought some advertising space within the magazine to tease Chaos Rings II. Unfortunately, that’s already all there is. But it’s plenty to get me excited! Chaos Rings was an RPG exclusively developed for iOS and is one of the best RPGs available in the App Store. Let’s hope it wont take long until Chaos Rings Omega is available outside Japan – and until we get some details on its sequel, Chaos Rings II.
