Square Enix Teases New iPhone and iPad Game

new square enix game Square Enix Teases New iPhone and iPad Game

Square Enix, the guys behind the legendary Final Fantasy saga, has launched a new teaser page on its official Website to announce a new iPhone and iPad game. And basically this is already where the announcement ends. Not even the title of the game is given. Price and release date is also “TBA”. Since it’s Square Enix however, I guess it should be a pretty safe bet to assume that it’s going to be some sort of RPG. And if I think back how much fun I had with Chaos Rings and Final Fantasy III, a new Square RPG – maybe even developed especially for the iOS platform – is more than welcome.

Square Enix is currently also working on ‘Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of Lions’, which was actually scheduled to be released last year already. So there is lots to come in the near future!

Gameloft Releases N.O.V.A. ELITE Teaser Trailer

It is not long since Gameloft announced via Facebook that there’s a new entry of the N.O.V.A. series called ‘N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance: ELITE’ in the works and today they have already released a trailer saying it’s coming “very soon”. Gameloft is well known to release its new games pretty close to the first announcement but that’s probably going to be a new record.

The trailer opens speculations that N.O.V.A. ELITE might be a MMO shooter, since it only shows multiplayer gameplay. Multiplayer has always been a popular part in Gameloft’s shooters and looking at the success of games like Eliminate or Archetype, the idea of it being a MMO shooter doesn’t seem too unrealistic. Not much changed regarding the graphics – it seems like it’s using the same engine as the previous N.O.V.A. game and not the newly licensed Unreal Engine 3. We probably don’t have to wait long until we can lay our hands on it, since a “very soon” from Gameloft usually means “within the next weeks”.

World of Goo For iPhone – Does It Work?

world of goo 8 World of Goo For iPhone Does It Work?

World of Goo is out now for your iPhone. But not only that, the brand new iPhone version is also on sale right now for $0.99 – but only for today. So right now you might be wondering how well the game translates to the smaller display. To give you the important answer right away:

World of Goo definitely works well on the iPhone, but not as great as it does on the iPad.

Developer 2dboy has added pinch to zoom to the iPhone version which makes some of the tricky spots in World of Goo easily manageable. Most of the time this works really well and I rarely had any problems compared to the iPad version. However, every once in a while you will find yourself covering too much space with your finger, leaving you with a bit of guesswork to find the right position for the goo ball. But then again, you can just drop the goo ball and zoom in a bit to solve the problem. The visuals translate great to the smaller screen and come with retina support.

So while World of Goo definitely benefits from the iPad’s bigger screen, it’s still a great game for your iPhone or iPod Touch. If you have an iPad, you will do yourself a favor if you get the more expensive version, which now comes as a universal app – so you can still enjoy World of Goo on the go. If you only have an iPhone (at least 3GS) or iPod Touch (at least 3rd Gen) go ahead and download the iPhone version right now – for $0.99 it’s a steal.

Dream:scape – Unreal Engine 3 Powered Indie Game

The Unreal Engine 3 is currently without a doubt the most powerful engine to develop a iOS game with. That’s the reason why gamers got all excited when indie developer speedbump studios released an announcement trailer of its soon to be released adventure dream:scape. The developer describes it as:

“an interactive experience, controlled by the user. The story unfolds as the user explores, unlocking new areas and revealing new chapters in the character’s diary.”

The trailer has an unsettling atmosphere that even reminded me of Amnesia: The Dark Descent (a game that freaked me out up to a point that I had to stop playing it), which sets the bar pretty high when it comes to story telling and immersion. The game is already submitted to the App Store and currently awaiting approval – so if everything goes well we will soon be able to solve the mystery of dream:scape. The game will come as a universal app with a $2.99 price tag. However, it will launch with a $0.99 sale.

There will also be something new and iOS exclusive that wants to be discovered:
