Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lion For iPhone Coming This Thursday

Oh yeah, the wait is over. Well, almost. Square Enix has announced on their blog that their long awaited Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lion for iPhone will be available on the App Store this thursday, August 4th for £10.99 – at the current exchange rate that would be something like $17.00.

Update: I just came across some more details on Squeenix’ Facebook page. In the US, Final Fantasy Tactics will be available for $15.99. And just like Final Fantasy III, it wont be a Universal App; the iPad version will be released separately and should hit sometime this autumn. I can’t say that I understand this way of releasing such a premium game. And not only because of the premium price, but because of the new iCloud feature that iOS 5 will introduce: Cloud savegames. If you have a Universal App, you’ll be able to sync the savegames on your iDevices, so you can continue playing on the run on your iPhone, while you can enjoy the game on the bigger screen of your iPad at home. Especially for epic games like Final Fantasy Tactics, that will last for hours on end, this feature seems to be heaven send. However, as I understand at the moment, this feature will only be available for Universal Apps – meaning you won’t be able to take advantage of it if the iPad version of Final Fantasy Tactics will also not be a Universal App. Let’s hope Squeenix will realize how substantial this feature is and release the iPad version as Universal App. And while they’re at it, they should also update the iPad version of Final Fantasy III to become a Universal App.

I’m sure there’s a lot of you out there who have been waiting for Final Fantasy Tactics: TWOTL for a very long time. I sure did. The original release date for this game was September 2010, almost 1 year ago. After Squeenix missed the deadline, the next release date was set to be “sometime in Spring 2011″. Well, we all know it’s well passed spring already, so people were getting worried about what’s happening with this port of one of their all-time favorite PSX titles. So it was a real relief when we finally got word that Final Fantasy Tactics has been officially submitted to the App Store. And now it’s only 2 days away from dominating your spare time with its turn based gameplay on your iPhone.

Warm Gun: Exciting Unreal Engine 3 Shooter Gets A Trailer

Many people say that gaming on iPhone or iPad is limited to casual titles. We all know this is not the case anymore and now there’s one more title to prove it: Warm Gun! Warm Gun is a multiplayer FPS that was originally planned to be released on PC only. However, thanks to the Unreal Engine which is powering the game, the devs at the indie studio Emotional Robots soon realized that it’s a great idea to port this beauty to the iOS platform.

Now with the first iOS trailer out in the wild to show off some gameplay footage and the game’s stunning visuals, I’m getting very excited for this title. The look of Warm Gun is a very unique mix of classic western elements and crazy looking pieces of modern technology. It creates a very special atmosphere unlike any multiplayer FPS that I know. Warm Gun takes place in post World War III America in which the last drop of oil has been the depleted and because of that the society sees the 2nd coming of the Wild West.

Warm Gun for iOS comes with 5 maps, 4 character classes and 12 weapons. It promises fast paced multiplayer action that plays in another class than what’s being offered right now on the platform. The release date is a very vague 2011 and there’s no word on the price yet. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out more.

“Drive Forever” Is Now “Forever Drive” And Racing To The Finish Line

aligcenter

Supermono Studios, the creators of the great MiniSquadron and EpicWin, had to rename their upcoming iPhone and iPad endless racer Drive Forever to Forever Drive due to same nasty legal issues. This won’t have any impact on the game though, so the more important news is that Forever Drive is in its final stages of development and it looks damn stylish. Spermono Studios have uploaded some new screenshot to give us an impression of how the game currently looks and what can I say – it’s got a strong Tron vibe going and looks really cool.

In Forever Drive, you’ll race against the time on a never-ending race track that is put together with user generated content. So you’ll not only be able to race in Forever Drive, you can also satisfy your creative side by constructing your own race tracks and then share them with the community. The community will be able to give each track a rating to make sure you’ll only end up racing on the most fun ones. As you progress in Forever Drive, you’ll unlock new cars to race with and new bits and pieces to use in the level editor.

On paper, this sounds really awesome – a lot like Little Big Planet actually, where user generated content adds a ton of fun to the game. Forever Drive is now in the last stages of development, the guys at Supermono Studios are currently busy with bug-fixing and integrating the final parts into the game. If everything goes well, there should soon be a trailer out, so we can finally see it in action. This is definitely a game to watch and we’ll keep you posted with new details.

And as we have already posted, in case you’ve always wanted to find out what the development of an iOS game looks like, Supermono Studios got you covered with their behind the scenes series Making Forever Drive:

Making Forever Drive, Part 1: Concept Development
Making Forever Drive, Part 2: Fun with Pipelines
Making Forever Drive, Part 3: Automated texture remapping
Making Forever Drive, Part 4: Playing Games

Desert Zombie: Last Stand: Gameplay Trailer Of The Unreal Engine Shooter Released

Shooting. Zombies. Unreal Engine. Those are the three key elements of Desert Zombie: Last Stand and it’s a formula that makes many iPhone and iPad gamers excited. Developer Crystalised has just released a brand new gameplay trailer that shows off some of the Unreal Engine powered zombie killing. In this survival shooter you’ll be facing various types of zombies that are all trying to end your life as quickly as possible. To defend yourself, you’ll be given all sorts of firearms, ranging from simple handguns to assault riffles and mounted turrets.

Crystalised seems to put plenty of energy into their baby – the movement of the zombies for example is recorded via motion capturing, a technology which digitalizes the movement of a real person wearing a funny suit. If everything goes well, this should result in a game with great attention to detail, something I’m always looking forward to. There’s no info when the game will be released on the App Store besides “coming soon”. This is definitely a title you should watch and we’ll keep you posted with new details as they emerge.

GTA: Chinatown Wars On Sale Till August 1st

gta header GTA: Chinatown Wars On Sale Till August 1st

Rockstar Games has lowered the price for GTA: Chinatown Wars to an all-time low of $2.99 for both the iPhone and iPad version. The sale lasts until August 1st. Let me tell you that GTA: Chinatown Wars is a real highlight on the App Store and if you haven’t played this game yet for whatever reason, now is the time to get into the action. The game was originally released on the Nintendo DS in 2009 and was ported to Sony’s PSP seven months later. Featuring a top-down perspective, it felt like GTA returned to its roots after several 3D releases of the franchise. And it was perfectly executed: GTA: CTW was well received by both critics and gamers alike. And we had nothing but good words in our review.

When Rockstar released GTA: CTW in January 2010 on the App Store for $9.99 it was a bargain. You’d have to pay three times the money if you wanted to buy it for your DS or PSP. So getting this game right now for as little as $2.99 [iPhone|iPad] is a real steal and a deal that you shouldn’t miss out on. And in case your still not convinced, you can always give the free Lite version [iPhone|iPad] a try.
